The home base player’s who play their professional football in the NPFL have a significant role to play in the super eagle squad in the forthcoming Africa cup of nations coming up next year January in Ivory Coast.
The Nigeria premier football league as started in a good shape which a lot of players have been doing great recently. Do they deserve to be in super eagle squad that will represent the nation next January? The question is begging for answers from the coach of the super eagle Jose Peisero
The last time Nigeria won this tournament the home base players were part of the squad that win the nation the biggest tournament in Africa. In fact they’re not just selected they make good impact to the success of the team. Sunday Mba fantastic midfielder who played alongside Onanzi and John Obi Mikel and also former sunshine stars defender Godfrey Oboabona who played alongside Keneth Omeruo.
Sunday Mba scored the only goal in the final to defeated Burkina Faso to win their third Africa cup of nations. It won’t be forgotten thanks to Nigeria legend late Steven Keshi who believes in these two players and they deliver their best for the team.
Ever since then the home base players have been finding it difficult to be part of the super eagle squad to represent Nigeria in any tournament. In fact former super eagle coach Gernot Rohr is not convinced about the players standards of home based players.
The inclusion of the home base players is not about just to pick players but their current form in the league in that particular period, the league has failed to start earlier to put the players in good form ahead of international tournament which is the major problem of selecting players playing in the league.
Now that we can identify many players who are doing great in the league right. From the goal keeper to the defender, they have the ability of course and they are ready to do their best for the team.
Though a lot of needs to be done for the home base players. They’re not been doing well in clubs competition in Caf competition but regardless of their performance they can be mixed with the foreign based players that will bring the trophy back to Nigeria next year
